A Violent Education: Corporal Punishment of Children in US Public Schools
According to this report, 21 states still allow for corporal punishment in schools, meaning that over 220,000 children are at risk for being paddled or spanked in their school. African American students and students with mental or physical disabilities receive this punishment at alarmingly disproportionate rates. The report outlines harmful effects for the student and the school environment as a whole, the role of race, gender, and disability in corporal punishment at school, and policy recommendations.
